New Book Day!

I forgot to post NEW BOOK DAY a few weeks ago when my copy of Nicholas Sparks' new book Safe Haven arrived.  I don't read very many books that are not geared for kids and teens, but I always read anything that Sparks releases!

According to a little video I saw a while back (I think on Amazon?), Sparks said that this book has some suspense in it...kind of like The Guardian did.  The Guardian is my favorite Sparks book, so I have high hopes for this new novel.

It's first on my list when I finish comps and I have my life back!

NEW Book Day!

Hip Hip Hooray!  Yesterday was NEW BOOK DAY!

First, I got this book:

Yes, I know it's available online at http://www.breetanner.com through July 5, but I'm the kind of girl who likes to hold the book.  And then add it to my collection.  So I bought it, and plan to read it tonight!

Also, guess what my sweet husband got me for our 4th anniversary?  Well, besides a trip to NYC in May and a splurge at the amazing Books of Wonder?

THIS:

Oh yes...Mo's NEW Book!  HAPPY DAY!

But guess what?

[Insert squeal of joy]  It's SIGNED by Mo AND Jon Muth!  Hooray!  Thanks hubby, I LOVE IT!

NEW BOOKS from Books of Wonder

We just got back from a fantastic trip to New York City, where I had to make a trip to one of the best places on this Earth...Books of Wonder bookstore.

Here I am outside the store with my bag of goodies.  Hooray!

So without further ado, here's the loot:

I was good!  I wanted to buy the whole store, but the ol' pocketbook just won't allow that to happen!

A signed copy of this year's Caldecott medal winner, The Lion and the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney.

A signed copy of Looking for Alaska by John Green.

A signed copy by Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan.  (Which I finished yesterday and is WONDERFUL.  I'll post a review of it tomorrow or Sunday.)

I also bought a professional development book about ways to incorporate families into reading.  It's got tons of great activities coordinating with a bunch of really great novels.  Hope to use that soon!

Because I spent over a certain amount of money, I got to get a free book so I chose Anne of Green Gables.   You can never go wrong with that book!

Anyway, I had lots of fun.  I can't wait to go back and check out what's new!

New Book Day...

We'll be getting a couple of new books over the next few days...today's arrival is The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks.

I ordered this book months ago when I saw that Sparks was releasing this one, and totally forgot it was coming until I got the email notification from Amazon. What a pleasant surprise!

I can't wait to read this one...I don't even know what it is about...but sadly I think it will just have to wait until winter break from school. :(

Hurrah for new book day!

New Book Day!

Today is a SPECIAL new book day!

When I got home from work today, I had a package waiting for me on the coffee table. (Hubs checked the mail today.) Inside the package was this book (an autographed copy even!) and a sweet note from my friend Laura who is currently on a cross-country adventure with her family moving from the deserts of California to Maine!

Thanks so much Laura! I love it!!!

Check back for a review soon!

IT'S HERE!!! Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney is finally here!

I'm very excited to read it...

Watch for my review soon! (It may be a week or so though, I've got to finish this project that is due on Tuesday.)

Then I'll have one more major project that is well underway and then two minor ones. Which is really good because this book FINALLY arrived at the library!

I've been desperate to read it, I really just should have bought it but didn't. And it's here, it's finally here! It shall be my reward for finishing the dreaded project.

New Book Day!

I haven't a new book day post in a while, because I had not purchased any new books for myself lately. Well, except for books for class, but I don't count those.

Anyway, I have recently acquired some new books and wanted to share!

A few weeks ago hubs and I discovered McKays in Nashville and I finally got to complete my Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants collection. Yay! I adore these books and am so excited to own all four.

My in-laws gave me a gift card for Books-a-Million for Christmas, and I finally spent it. I purchased 3 Willows by Ann Brashares and Deadline by Chris Crutcher. 3 Willows is the new sisterhood following the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Since you already know that I love those books, I have been eagerly waiting the release of this book.

Deadline is a book that just looks so interesting. I've seen it come in and out of the library, but haven't checked it out. So, I decided to just buy it! I can't wait to tear into this one either.

You may have read in my review of the next book I received that I was hoping to score a copy signed. Well, my husband got me a signed book for Valentine's Day! Isn't he the best! He called my favorite independent bookstore, and they had some copies available! YAY!

Sigh. I love Mo, and I love my husband WAY MORE! Thanks hubs for the best Valentine's gift ever!!

So, there you have it...the latest editions to my personal library.

New Book Day!

I have the most awesome friends.

My new friends, the Bliss family --Bryan, Michelle, Nora & Ben-- scored a personalized autographed copy of Paper Towns, by one of my most favorite authors-John Green-just for me.

See, John Green thinks I'm awesome.

But I thinks he's awesom-er.

And that cool Bliss family, those guys are the awesom-est.

Thanks guys, I just absolutely LOVE my book.

(Hey, why don't you check out Bryan's blog? He just wrote a novel...he'll probably be famous one day, then you can say "I read his blog when...")

New Book Day!

Well, sort of.

A while back, hubs and I went to New York to visit some friends and stopped by the Strand Bookstore and bought this book.

I was planning reading it pretty quickly, but I kept putting it off due to school work. (I was scared I would get sucked in and ignore my academic duties.)

Recently a friend passed along her copy of the audio book. Now, I can totally rationalize listening to a book on my commute to work. So, I listened. AND FELL IN LOVE.

So yesterday, I headed out to my local chain bookstore and purchased these:

(Sorry for the glare. Being the book nerd that I am, I have covered my book jackets library style.)

Yep. I'm hooked. I heart Edward. I think Bella rocks.

And I can't wait to see what happens next. (And to see the movie that is coming out on 11/21!)

NEW BOOK DAY!

I will spare you the details of how long it took me to find a copy of this much anticipated book. Ahem.

(I mean really. John Green is one of the best authors out there so I don't understand how bookstores wouldn't have his book out with much fanfare.)

I will only share my excitement that I finally found Paper Towns by John Green. I've already started and it's is so good! It is so good that I am putting aside the homework I really should be doing to continue reading.

I'll post a review soon after I finish, though I really think you should just order a copy and read it for yourself. Check it out here: Paper Towns by John Green.

Good Times at the Southern Festival of Books (and NEW BOOK DAY!)

Today my mom and I headed to the Southern Festival of Books at the War Memorial Plaza in Nashville. I have been looking forward to this event for some time now, and was seriously pumped the day was here!

I was looking forward to listening to a few authors in particular: Sherman Alexie, Patricia and Frederick McKissack, and Gloria Jean Pinkney. I was not disappointed in any of their presentations.

The first session we attended was entitled "Two Award-Winning Picture Book Authors Present Their Latest Works : Gloria Jean Pinkney, Patricia McKissack." Basically, these two incredible authors discussed their writings and other fun facts, such as the book business, their backgrounds and their writing process. Mrs. Pinkney even sang a little! It was incredible.

We stopped by the book sale table and picked up some books and both ladies personalized and signed the copies. These books are now treasured additions to my library!

The second session we attended was entitled "Our White House: Looking In, Looking Out: Mary Brigid Barrett, Patricia McKissack, Fredrick McKissack, Lynda Johnson Robb." This book is a collection of works from 108 different children's authors and illustrators around the theme of the US White House throughout history. Each president that resided in the White House is represented in the book, along with an abundance of White House facts. The four contributors that were present read their submission to the book as well as some other parts as well.

I had purchased this book earlier in the day and each of the contributors present signed my copy on the page their story was located. What is especially special about this book is a project of the National Children's Book and Literary Alliance, a not-for-profit literacy organization created in 1997 by award-winning children's book authors and illustrators. The talent that participated in the book will forgo all royalties and that money will go back into the coalition for future endeavors. (Which is reason enough to go get a copy now, not to mention how utterly awesome this book is!)

Finally, we attended the session entitled "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian : Sherman Alexie" where Alexie shared this book. This was the event I had been looking most forward to as I had read this book over the summer and absolutely adored it! (My mom is even reading the book now as I type!)

Alexie was absolutely hilarious as he shared his experiences and the audience seemed to be enthralled the entire time he spoke. I had my books signed, which was totally awesome.

So, overall it was an amazing day. There was so much to see, so much to do! We only saw a small percentage of the authors who were sharing, but felt like we saw the ones that mattered most to us. I cannot wait to go next year!

My loot of the day:
Daniel and the Lord of the Lions by Gloria Jean Pinkney, illustrated by Robert Casilla. (Signed by the author!)
Goin' Someplace Special by Patricia McKissack, illustrated by Jerry Pinkney. (Signed by the author!)
Our White House: Looking in Looking Out by various authors and illustrators. (Signed by four contributors!)
Flight by Sherman Alexie. (Signed by the author!)

We also got various bookmarks, postcards, and other fun things!

This is my copy of The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, now signed by the author.

Hopefully, book reviews will be posted in the near future for books shown here today!

New Book Day! (again!!)

I can't NOT go into a store that sells books and NOT buy one. Seriously.

So when hubs and I went on a date tonight and we stopped by Books-A-Million, I had to purchase something.

As I was browsing through the Teen section, I suddenly knew what book I just had to have.

Okay, I'm so bad. I just can't help myself. It's a problem.

Next week is the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville, TN and I am so there. It's been on my calendar for months, and the event is just about here!

The author of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is Sherman Alexie, who JUST SO HAPPENS to be one of the featured authors at the Southern Festival of Books. I'm looking to get bad boy signed!

I cannot WAIT to tear into these bad boys!

New Book Day!

On the days when a book I have ordered for my personal library arrives, I will post a picture and explain why I just HAD to have it for my very own.

Being a librarian, I'm a firm believer of not purchasing books but using the resources available for FREE!

But there are just some books I have to have. (Besides books for school, although some of those are quite awesome.)

New Book Day is very exciting. It is like Christmas, my birthday, and every holiday rolled into one as I open the box and find a wonderful new adventure. Even if I've already read it. My husband totally makes fun of me, but I don't care. It's New Book Day.

So, without further ado, here the first installment of NEW BOOK DAY! (YAY!!!)

Today's arrival is My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

I read this book a few years ago, and have since read it again AND listened to the audiobook. It is my all time favorite Jodi Picoult book and is definitely in my top ten of all time favorite books ever. I will post a proper review at a later date, no time to do it justice right now!

I have been wanting to purchase this book for a while, but it was not being printed in hardcover, only softcover. And I really wanted a hardcover version. Plus, the movie is coming out in 2009, so I imagine there will be a run on this wonderful novel and I wanted to be SURE to get it just like I wanted it. I finally broke down and ordered it through half.com and now proudly own my very own copy!

Hurray for New Book Day!
