New Reader....coming this summer!

The blog has taken a back seat to getting adjusted to a new job.  Being a school librarian is lots of fun, but very different than a public librarian!  I love working with the kids, but am finding it challenging to keep up with "latest and greatest" out there!  My biggest fear came true.

I'm still reading, but lacking motivation to blog about it.  That's okay.  Maybe once I find my "groove" I'll be back.

Plus, I'll have a new audience to read aloud with!

Yep, this summer we'll have a new little person to read all sorts of great books to!  I can't wait!

So, I resume my hiatus.  I'll try to stop by every now and again, but we are going to be busy, busy, busy!

Happy Reading!

Ch-ch-changes in 2011

Life has taken quite a turn lately!

First...I have finally graduated with a M.S. in Information Sciences.  I'm proud to add this to my M.A. in Education, and I have dubbed them "the twins."

It's not a great picture, but you can see it's real!

Next, I made the difficult decision to leave my beloved position at the public library and accepted a position with a local elementary school as their school library media specialist.  The public library has had a lot of drama going on all that I have absolutely no control over, and when the school position came up I decided to apply.  When that job came through, I decided it was time to jump ship.  It was a hard decision and caused a lot of sleepless nights and so many tears!  I'm usually not much of a crier but I bawled a lot making this decision.

Now that the decision is made, I am super excited about my new position.  It is going to be different in many ways, but the root is the same: to encourage kids and families to fall in love with books and reading!

I'm looking forward to an exciting 2011!

Young Adult Literature Seminar with TN State Library & Archives

Today I had the honor of being a co-presenter for a short web seminar about Young Adult Literature for the Tennessee State Library and Archives.

I had a lot of fun working on this presentation with Lindsey Wesson from the TN State Library & Archives and Roy Lee from the Linebaugh Public Library.

The presentation was recorded, and as soon as the link to the presentation is make public I will be sure to share!  UPDATE:  Here is the link: http://stateoftennessee.na6.acrobat.com/p64907784/.

So, if you are visiting my blog from the way of this presentation, Welcome!  A few things about me:
  • My book blog is really more a personal book journal.  I don't expect anyone else out there to read this, or if they do...to care!  This blog is a way for me to chronicle what I have read, and a way for me to look back at some good books when I am blocked on some great books to share with my library patrons.
  • Though I should, I don't blog every book I read.  Sometimes I just don't feel like writing about it.  So I don't!  However, you can always check out what I am currently reading or just finished reading by checking out the right sidebar!  It's always updated as I start and/or finish a new book!
  • I am currently studying for comprehensive exams for my MIS degree from UT-Knoxville, which will take place on October 29.  Therefore, I have "grounded" myself from any reading that is not studying!  I have a LONG list of books I can't wait to jump into after I am finished...so stay tuned!
Thanks for stopping by!  I love comments...so feel free to leave one!

Back into it...

Time to fess up.

This semester was AWFUL.

It was stressful.

Work was crazy busy.

Don't get me wrong.  The class content and stuff was fine, I had a practicum that was fantastic, but put ALL that together and ice it with moving into a new house which needs organizing and decorating and yardwork...

I really wasn't in the mood for blogging.

So I didn't!  I've been reading....promise!  But just not blogging about them.

It happens.

Now it's almost May, and I'm finished with classes for the summer.  All I lack in this degree is one measly internship and taking my comps.

It's as good as done!

Now that I have some sort of a life back...I plan to return to blogging!

Hopefully.

Is she lost?

No, I'm not lost. I'm reading! And doing homework, and working, watching FHU basketball, working on making our new house our home, and doing an internship in the public schools on top of it all. Plus the Olympics are currently in progress, and I'm a HUGE Olympic junkie.

I haven't been blogging.

It's on my list of things to do, I promise.

In the meantime, you should run out and read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. I just finished those and they are superb novels. You won't be sorry.

Go Team USA!

Every librarian needs one...

My friend Margie has a really cool blog called Picalicious where she and her husband (and maybe some other friends) post a picture a day for a year.

It's great fun to watch what they observe during their daily lives!

Today, she thought of me! How special?? I am so honored.

What picture did she take that reminded her of me? Well...find out!

That's right...a librarian action figure.

Although I hope I don't look quite as frumpy, even though today I sure felt like it!

Thanks Margie...I think it is super cool!

A New Page....

Hello Friends!

(Which I realize I am speaking to myself as anyone who ever followed this site gave up on it a LONG time ago as I stopped posting...)

But today is a new day and I'm starting something new.

If you know me at all, you know that I "heart" books. I love to read, which is good because I am a librarian! A children's librarian, which is seriously, the best job in the world.

Also, I am in graduate school diligently working on a MIS (Master's in Information Science), sometimes also called Information/Library Sciences. Many of the classes I have taken/am taking/will take require me to read lots of great books and write summaries for them.

Which is actually quite fun.

So, in a feeble attempt to be technological savvy and to keep the practice alive of writing book reviews, I have changed the content of this blog to just that...book reviews.

Hopefully you will find them interesting and it will encourage you to pick up a great read.

Please understand that I am a novice, and learning the fine art of writing superb reviews. I promise to do my best. And to update as often as possible! (Really.)

Enjoy!
